About Canada-Bangladesh & Chamber of Commerce
The Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) traces its roots to the late 1990s, when Bangladeshi business professionals in Toronto began organizing to create a unified platform for entrepreneurs. On January 4th, a new initiative called the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Toronto, Canada was launched under the leadership of convener Syed Nazmul Hossain Mona, with the aim of protecting the interests of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, encouraging investment, and facilitating information exchange. This was the first and only such organization for Bangladeshi businesses in Canada at the time. An extended committee was announced, including members A. S. Mondal, Faruk Hossain Khan, Rashedul Haque Chowdhury, and Masum Hossain, who worked together to expand the initiative.
Building on this momentum, a landmark general meeting was held on March 8, 1998 at Rajnagar Restaurant in Toronto, where entrepreneurs from Toronto, Scarborough, Mississauga, North York, and surrounding areas gathered. Chaired by noted businessman Mr. Rezaur Rahman, the meeting approved the constitution of the organization and formally elected its first executive council for a three-year term. The elected leadership included Mr. Rezaur Rahman as President, Nazmul Hossain Mona as Vice President, Dr. Hasan Imam as Administrative Director, Nazrul Islam Mintu as Director of Information & Publications, Nurul Alam as Finance Director, and Faruk Hossain Khan and Sathi Ahmed as General Directors.
In April 1998, the organization was officially established as the Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) with a dedicated board of 21 members. Since then, CBCC has actively organized business seminars, trade fairs, and economic programs aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering bilateral trade. Mr. Areef Rahman, former Executive Vice President, made significant contributions to the growth of the organization. One of its notable achievements of CBCC is advocating for tax-free imports of goods from Bangladesh, a milestone in promoting trade between the two nations. CBCC also collaborates with leading organizations such as the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and has co-hosted several impactful seminars to support business growth. Today, CBCC operates as a dynamic business network, connecting businesses, government agencies, and other organizations to promote the interests of the business community. By uniting local entrepreneurs and advocating for their needs, the Chamber continues to enhance the economic, civic, and cultural well-being of the regions it serves.
